Everyday we are encountered with bullying. As students and adults, this is a problem that doesn't seem to go away. The new movie "Bully" is a documentary film that highlights the deeply rooted problems that victims of bullying suffer. We discussed bullying during our unit on persuasion, and watched many public service announcements geared towards raising awareness of the problem.
Watch the video trailer below for the movie "Bully" and leave your comments on the trailer. Feel free to discuss any emotions that you felt while watching the trailer. Then, answer the question: If you could give advice to a victim of bullying or to a bully, what would you say and why?

ReplyDeleteBullying is a big issue in todays world and needs to stop. The suicide rate has risen since 2009 due to bullying and increases every year. And if you can stop one bully, you might stop a lot of bullys because bullys are just bullied by other bullys and it needs to stop period.

ReplyDeletei would tell the victim that is getting bullied that they need to either just ignore the bully and walk away or go tell someone what is happening to you and who it is and what they are saying to u. tell your parents or a teacher that they are saying this to u, an don't let it get to the point where you wanna kill your self cause those guys or girls who are telling u that your not worth living or u should just go die they have someone somewhere telling them the same thing their telling u there just taking their anger out on you, because your probably smaller then they are and they feel more powerful when they pick on someone smaller then they are. you do have something to live for you will probably be more successful then they will so keep on living and fulfill your dreams!

ReplyDeleteIf I could talk to one of the kids being bullied, I would probably tell them that though I feel sorry for them, they needed to toughen up and realize that if they spent their whole lives listening to the negative things that people had to say about them, they would have a pretty horrible life. Why? Because there will always be someone out there who wants to tear them down or make them feel like they're not worth anything. Once they get it through their head’s that everything that people say about them or to them isn’t true, their lives will be way better

ReplyDeleteI never thought that bullying was a big issue until now. As i watch this movie trailer, i realize that this is actaully a very big issue in our world today. All my life, i have just been blind to notice that bullying is real. The reason why I have is probably because i havn't been bullied. Something that suprises me a lot, is that an 11 year old boy took his own life because he felt like he had no other option to be happy with himself. For any of you people that do get bullied, i would recommend to think on the bright side of bullying. Your bully could have no one that loves them, problems at home, and they could even just be jealuos of you. You should think of your home, at home there is someone that loves you and would kill themselves to see you get bullied. Always remember that what that one bully or bullies says or do to you, know that you are better than them. What they say is just an opinion meaning what they think of you. Remember that opinions dont matter when they are negative and come from other people that don't appreciate who you are as a person. What really matters is what you think of your self, these are all of the posotive thoughts that should never be replaced in your head no matter what!

ReplyDeleteIf I could give any advice to any person being bullied, I would say that courage is the key to overcome obstacles in life, including bullies, and also to STAND UP FOR YOURSELF. Courage is fire, and bullying is smoke. Also, to all you people who say they don't bully or atleast make others feel bad but YOU DO,YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED that you thought you could make yourself feel better by bullying others and making them feel worthless. How would you feel if someone said that you were worthless? I guess you'd be pretty depressed. Yeah? Well, so ARE the KIDS being BULLIED!!!!

ReplyDeleteBullying is a serious issue in schools all over the world and is an issue that is not being handled the way it should. I think that if i could talk to bullies or even one bully i would explain that bullying is not something that is a joke or is used to make some else popular. Also i would tell them to put themselfs in there shoes or imagine if that was there family member being treated this way. Personaly i look at bullying as a treat upon someones life and the bullies way to get attion by the cool kids or whoever. Well as i always tell my friends if someone or people dont want to be your friend for who you are then you dont need to be there friends at all. A bully is just someone who wants attion so just think a bully needs a friend too.

ReplyDeleteI would tell the kids to tell the bully to stop in a friendly, not violent way and if they don`t stop, tell the teacher or principal, because millions of people comit suicide every single day. Bullys, you may think it`s funny to single a kid out and make him feel insecure and embarased, but how funny is it when that person kills himself, and hurts his family and friends that never even got to say good bye!? And also, I would tell them that the bullies have insecurities too but are probably more self-concious and ashamed then the victims themselves

ReplyDeleteIf I could talk to a bully I would tell them to cut the act. I feel for them, but they don't have to act out like that. Why should you ever feel so insecure about yourself that you must take it out on other children? Bullies are just victims in another form. If you have any troubles go talk to an adult that listens! You're just going to get in more and more trouble. How is picking on a kid satisfying if you're going to be the one who faces the consequences? Do you like seeing pain in another eyes when you suffer the same on the inside? How would you feel if that human being took it's own life because of your actions. Next time before you say something mean, think to yourself, will this harm the person next to me? Will they face the consequences of my words? If the answer is yes, walk away.

ReplyDeleteI would tell the person getting bullied, to get over it and move on. There will be people in life that are going to make you feel horrible. They will do anything just to make you feel that way. But if you ingnore them and keep your chin up and keep on a happy face then you will get through it. And everything will be just fine. And never be afraid to stand up for yourself. Tell a parent or someone what is going on and they can help you find a way out.

ReplyDeleteIf I could talk to the kid getting bullied i'd say to tell an adult whats going on. Not only that but the way it makes you feel especially if it has come to the point that you would want to kill yourself. And that not to let these words hurt you, the bully is trying to tear you down and if you let them they will know that they have succeeded and they will just hurt you more.

ReplyDeleteMy best advice would be to not ignore the problem. If you were getting bullied stand up for your self by telling an adult what is going on. When I watch this video I immediately think of all the times I've been picked on during school and how that felt. Its absolutely horrible that this 11 year old kid took his own life. Thats the same age as my little sister and I couldnt imagine being in that situation were you didnt want to go on living. I also know that we as kids and teens shouldnt have to take care of bullying by our selfs. Adults can do more to help the situation then our friends can.

ReplyDeleteAdvice to bully: Well first off I would have to remember that this kid proabably has problems too and are seeking attention or feel bad about themselves.I would want to talk to them about themselves, not scold them.First I would figure out the problem and why they are bullying this person and also see if anything is making them impelled to feel like it's okay to take your feelings out on others.True there are some mean at heart and do it for the fun and those people can't really ever change unless they want to. But I think if the bully figures themselves out first that they won't have to feel like they have to bully to get attention or "prove themselves as the dominant one".Instead of just concentrating on the victims we also need to help the bullies or else they will never know and be angry or problematic their whole life.
Advice to the victim: I would want them to understand that they need keep their head up and help themselves because if they don't life will be very hard. I also think it's wrong when people say you need to stand up for yourselves.Wrong because maybe they don't know how to say no.The kid also needs to talk about it with a close friend or adult because that will make them feel a whole lot better and they will know someone's truly on their side.People love you and you should never be ashamed of yourself.
I knew a bully and the only reason she was mean was because she wanted to go to the office so her dad would get her in trouble so she could have some kind of attention from him after her parents separated.Don't judge to quick and never steep to their level, try not to be mean to anyone even if they are.

ReplyDeleteWhile watching this video, I kept thinking, "Well if they are being bullied, why dont they do something about it? Stand up for themsleves, tell a teacher or adult, and get this problem solved.?" But then I realized that although they WOULD, & sometimes DO tell people about the problem they are facing... They extremety of their situation isn't understood by parents and other Adults. If I could say anything to a bullying victim, i would let them know that I understood what they were going through, and that they are not the problem, that they are exactly what they should be, and nothing less. I would make sure they knew that everyone is different, and sometimes bullies aren't happy with what they have become, and would rather make someone else hurt instead of facing themselves... And although sometimes parents and teachers don't always understand what they are going through, they need to continue to just be themselves, because the only way to stop the bullying is to stand up for who you are and what you believe in...

ReplyDeleteI wouold tell the person being bullied to push through it theres a friend out there for everyone and he just needed to find one. A big friend. If I could talk to the bullier I would tell him to stop being such a tool, thinking hes so cool messing with a little kid trying to make himself feel better. I mess with my friends but I dont go around shoving kids faces into school bus seats. He should just chill out and not bully.

ReplyDeleteI would tell them to ingnore the bully or just try to avoid he or she. Or you could tell the bully to stop being so mean to them because they doin't like it. or he or she cpould just always be with a group of people and then the bully would not come and mess with him.
Maddy M
ReplyDeleteBullying is not something to be proud of. If I had the chance to speak to a victim of bullying, I would ask them to find what their talent is and use that talent to make friends. Maybe they can join a club or a sport where they fit in. There is probably someone else out there that is in the same situation as they are in. That one friend could stand up for you and maybe you could stand up for them. Friends are the best thing to have. You are never alone. If someone would say this to a bullied victim their self-esteem would grow and you could possibly save a life.

ReplyDeleteIf i could talk to one of these kids being bullied, i would try and get them to realize that many kids that are bullies have issues and that they could possibly be going through something much worse than their victims are going through. And that other times these kids dont mean anything hurtfull, they are just messing with you. Many of us can relate to a time when someone had said something to us that made us angry, but we didn't say anything because we know they are joking. But sometimes these kids dont realize they dont always mean what they say and are very upset. So when one of these people say things to you just let them know and then get over it. But try not to insult them back.

ReplyDeleteI WOULD TELL THE BULLY VICTIM TO TELL AN ADULT, AND JUST IGNORE THE COMMENTS BECAUSE IN A COUPLE OF YEARS, WHEN THEY TURN 18, THEY MOVE ON TO COLLEGE, AND SO IT IS LIKE AN OTHER OPPERTUNITY FOR THEM TO RESTART. BUT IF THEY ARE PHYSICALLY BULLIED THEY SHOULD TELL AN ADULT AND SUE THE PERSON. OR GET IN A FIGHT AND BEAT UP THE PERSON REALLY BADLY THAT THEY WILL NEVER BOTHER YOU ANYMORE, BUT DO IT OFF SCHOOL PROPERTY.
Daniel L.
ReplyDeleteIf a kid was being bullied, I would tell the kid to tell an adult so he doesn't get picked on anymore and also would tell the bully to back off. People who aren't bullied don't realize what bullied kids go through and how negative their life is.
Alexus G.
ReplyDeleteIf i was talking to the one getting bullied i would tell them to stand up for themselves. tell the bully to back and go inform somebody about it. also try to ignore them. if you do that then eventually they will go away. most bullies these days were/are people who have been or are getting bullied themsleves. so maybe you can try to talk to them and relate. tell them how you feel and then ask them what would you do if someone is doing all these things to you that you're doing to me. they'll be quite shocked when you tell them this. (i know personally) It'll be a hit of reality to them. and maybe they'll stop. if not, tell an authority about it and tell them that you tried to talk it out with your bully but they wouldn't listen. that'll put a stop to them....
